Our Top 10 Fashion Websites!

By fashionstake · March 20, 2010 · 2 Comments · 8,355 Views

We've scoured the web for the top fashion websites and (drum roll please) here's our Top 10!

1. Know any fashion-crazed, Web-addicted people? Chances are they know Polyvore and have spent hours of their time on the site. Polyvore allows your to take clothing, accessories and furniture from almost anywhere on the Web and put together your own looks. The site was the innovative leader in the ever-growing market of outfit creation sites, and has yet to be overtaken in quality. And the folks behind Polyvore are more than just savvy entertainers. These smart business folk earn heaps of cash by linking commerce sites with millions of voracious online shoppers.

2. WWD.com is the definitive source for fashion journalism. Even your most trusted blogs and fashion rags lean on this online version of the Womens Wear Daily paper. This publication is for hardcore fashion fanatics that understand that the industry is so much more than celebrity fluff and the bi-annual fashion week blitz. If there's news related to the garment business that's worth knowing it's going to be in WWD. And don't be fooled by the name. This site covers menswear, too!

3. eBay is the ultimate gateway drug for a hardcore shopaholic. It's like your favorite thrift store, outlet mall, and high-end boutique rolled into one scrumptious Website. Where else can you score a designer bag worth two grand for $100? True story!

4. If eBay is the free market on steroids, then Etsy is it's green-living, craft-loving, vegan hippy little sister. This site has it's roots in being a marketplace for handcrafted products, but has expanded to include quality vintage items, too. It's the perfect spot to uncover designer diamonds in the rough. Highlights include the handmade jewelry and unique leather goods.

5. The Cut is like WWD for the attention challenged. Let's face it - the vast majority of us on the Web don't care to read about Liz Claiborne's quarterly earnings statement. In fact, most can scarcely stand to read anything more extensive than a headline and a photo caption! As NY Magazine's wildly popular fashion blog, The Cut rounds up the best bits of fashion news and gossip and delivers them with just the right amount of snark.

6. Net-a-Porter.com is now one of many Websites that sell designer fashion to customers worldwide. When it launched in 2000, however, it was like a beacon the night for style seekers out of range of a major city. The site revolutionized fashion retail and lead the way for a sector of fashion that keeps the industry afloat even in economic downturns.

7. While Net-a-Porter set the pace for luxe shopping online, Farfetch.com jumped on the bandwagon and added an incredibly smart twist. The site connects shoppers in countries around the world with brick & mortar boutiques that would otherwise only reach customers in their immediate locales. The advantage is that you can browse more than just the mainstream and score items from lesser known labels as well.

8. The Fashion Spot is the Uber of ubers when it comes to online fashion communities. Stocked with invite-only members - many of whom are well-placed fashion insiders - this forum welcomes those that want to talk nothing but fashion morning, noon, and night. Looking for celebrity style, runway trends, fashion photography, or career advice? You'll find them all at thefashionspot.com. The site is open for anyone to browse, but to participate you have to be member.

9. At businessoffashion.com you'll get more than just fashion news. This site was founded by luxury market insiders and is committed to educating people about - you guessed it - the business of fashion. Check out the site to get tips on how to start your own fashion-related business.

10. YouTube rounds out the list of the best fashion sites on the Web. It may seem an unlikely choice, but this mega site is your best bet for fashion videos of all sorts. Missed all the fashion week streams? You can catch them on YouTube. Set up playlists with fashion shows from years ago or piece together clips of your favorite fashion documentary (Lagerfeld Confidential, anyone?). And if you really want to waste some time, search the word "haul" then sit back and watch random strangers tell you about everything they bought at the mall. Yep, when it's free, people will watch ANYTHING.

That's it... there were so many snazzy websites that just missed the cut. What essential sites did we miss? What sites shouldn't have made it to our Top 10?
